1. Talk to your kids. Discuss your concerns and expectations for their good choices and responsible behavior. 2. Have input on where they will stay. Pick a place from the approved list provided by the Visitor’s Center. Know the address and phone number of where they are staying. 3. Know who they will be staying with. Responsible roommates encourage responsible behavior. 4. Consider visiting during the same week for a meal or overnight stay. 5. Do they have the essentials? Cell phone, emergency contact phone numbers, money management plans, etc. 6. Check on them periodically. Insist that the teen check in with you every so often. Call the hotel or rental manager. 7. Do NOT provide alcohol –No beer, wine coolers, hard lemonade, liquor. 8. Make sure fun, alcohol-free recreational activities are planned. The Play It Safe booklet has free coupons and a bus pass for the week. 9. Health information: send a notarized form saying that they may be treated medically. Send all medical insurance information and doctors’ numbers in a size they can fit in their wallets. Good Resources for Parents & Teens to Check Out 1. The www.playitsafeoceancity.comwebsite gives information for parents and teens, as well as a calendar of free activities and coupons. Coupon booklets should be available in schools in May before Ocean City Week. 2. Two other sites with good information are www.ocmaryland.com and www.ococean.com. 3. Ocean City provides a shuttle bus service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! No need to drive and find parking spaces. It runs from 1st Street to 145th Street and costs $2 per day for unlimited rides (or get the coupon in the Play It Safe booklet and ride for free.) There is also a Boardwalk shuttle that runs from the inlet to 28th Street which costs $2.50 each ride and runs from 10am to midnight
